Formed in 1994
Multiflight was formed in 1994 by technology entrepreneur David Hood, OBE, after he purchased a Falcon 900B. David, who founded Shipley-based Pace Micro Technology plc and plotted the company’s growth through the 1980s and 1990s until its float in 1996, formed the company after becoming an aviation enthusiast and then helicopter pilot himself, before buying the Falcon.
Development & Expansion
In 1999 Steve Borrowdale joined Multiflight as Managing Director to assist David with the development and expansion of the company. Steve’s engineering background; he was formerly European Helicopters and Lynton Aviation Vice President, and his experience of worldwide operations, sales and engineering, plus company acquisitions, made him the perfect choice for the role.
Miles Beecham was appointed to Multiflight’s Board of Directors as Finance Director in January 2008. Miles, who started his career with Birmingham accountancy firm PKF working in audit and then as a corporate tax specialist, had been Multiflight’s Financial Controller and Company Secretary since 2002.
Redevelopment & Restructuring
Multiflight went on to acquire the two other companies based on the site: Yorkshire Light Aircraft Limited and the Yorkshire Flying Club, as part of a redevelopment and restructuring of the South Side of the airport.
Another Landmark
In 2016, PTT (Pilot Training and Testing Limited) acquired Multiflight Flight Training Centre with the aim of developing and expanding its flight training offer, from Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) to Commercial Pilot’s Licence (CPL), Instrument Rating (IR) and further – another landmark in Multiflight history.
Home to other businesses
As well as Multiflight and its 70-strong team, the site is home to a number of other businesses and organisations. These include Craven College’s Aviation Academy, Boundless Networks, one of the UK’s leading Fixed Wireless Internet Service Providers for business and residential customers, and online marketing company Infoserve.
Chairman
Technology entrepreneur David formed Multiflight in 1994. The founder of Shipley-based Pace Micro Technology plc established Multiflight after becoming a helicopter pilot himself and then bought a Falcon 900B.
Managing Director
Steve joined Multiflight as Managing Director in 1999 to assist with the development and expansion of the company. He previously worked for Lynton Aviation Group which included European Helicopters, Air Hanson, Dollar Helicopters and Ramapo as Vice President.
Finance Director
Miles has been Multiflight’s Finance Director since January 2008. He started his career with Birmingham accountancy firm PKF, before becoming Multiflight’s Financial Controller and Company Secretary in 2002.
Commercial Sales Director
David is responsible for the sale of spares via our main agent status for the major aviation manufacturers including engine sales and overhaul.
Compliance & Safety Manager
Gordon, a former army aircraft engineer and manager, joined Multiflight in 2015 and now has over 40 years’ experience of rotary and fixed wing maintenance, and Compliance and Safety Management. Gordon ensures Multiflight’s compliance with regulatory requirements from the CAA, EASA, FAA and the HSE.
Continuing Airworthiness Manager
Simon ensures Multiflight’s aircraft technical records are maintained correctly and that all aircraft are current with all maintenance requirements fulfilled and fit to fly.
Engineering Manager
Tom is a graduate qualified seasoned engineering professional with 25 years of experience in the helicopter and fixed wing maintenance support. With a passion for innovation and a commitment to excellence, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team.
Chief Helicopter Pilot
Mark, a highly experienced helicopter pilot, manages our team of charter pilots and pilots for the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
Chief Fixed Wing Engineer
Michael ensures the fixed-wing engineering team provides the Part 145 services for both turbine and piston aircraft ensuring that we meet customers’ needs.
Engine Shop Manager
Ben is responsible for all the day-to-day engine workshop activity. A highly experienced engineer, Ben manages the team in the Engine Workshop.
FBO Ramp Supervisor
Gavin has worked at Multiflight for over 18 years. He ensures that everything runs smoothly on the ramp for visiting aircraft and aircraft parked, kept here or undergoing maintenance at Multiflight.
Customer Account Manager
Studied Aircraft structural engineering and Aircraft maintenance in France and was awarded a Mention of credit for his qualification. Trained at Multiflight as a maintenance engineer during his studies – Joined the Sales and Purchasing team with his engineering knowledge and has continued to grow the sales of Spares, Engines and In house Avionic installation and Engineering services in the UK and Europe.
