My visit to Multiflight – by competition winner Lorraine
When Multiflight Café announced the winner of its National Sandwich Week competition, little did we know that winner Lorraine was such an aviation enthusiast.
Lorraine Crutchley’s suggestion of “Chicken and mango mayo” was the clear winner when we asked for ideas for a special sandwich recipe or a favourite butty you wanted to see on the menu at Multiflight Café as part of National Sandwich Week. It was the firm favourite with café visitors. The “Chicken & Mango Wholemeal Wrap with salad” is now a regular feature on the menu.
What we didn’t realise until Lorraine visited the café this week to sample her winning wrap and also have a tour of the Multiflight site, was just what an aviation enthusiast Lorraine is. She was delighted to win and receive her prize, a voucher, but she was even more thrilled to look round the Multiflight facility.
Lorraine belongs to a group called Jet Junkies (www.jet-junkies.com), a small team of aviation and motor enthusiasts who have found their paths crossing through friendship and social media.
So pleased at visiting Multiflight, Lorraine has written a piece about her visit. We thought it was worth sharing.
“Today I had the very great pleasure of visiting Multiflight at Leeds Bradford Airport, South Side, Yeadon, West Yorkshire.
Multiflight prides itself on being one of the UK’s finest private aviation companies with, as the name suggests, many flight services including aircraft sales, parts, engineering, maintenance, executive handling, charter, helicopter flight training and a wonderful café to sit, relax and enjoy the landing and departing aircraft.
I was lucky enough to win a prize for suggesting a sandwich filling which proved to be a best seller! The hospitality offered by my host Susan Preston was second to none and if this is an example of the treatment offered by the staff at this facility I can highly recommend it. Absolutely everyone I met received me with a smile and looked so happy to work in such a friendly, family-friendly environment.
The Multiflight facility hosts a number of businesses and first opened its doors in 1994 where the business has grown to offer first class private aviation facilities to all its customers. Anyone can charter a helicopter or plane, have a flying lesson, hangar an aircraft or use the service and repair facilities or just sit back and relax in the executive surroundings pre or post private flight. You can speed through your dedicated security and customs area and straight into your transport home without having to tackle the airport queues.
The café, which was once a porta cabin, had a major refurbishment around 2007 and opens seven days a week 8am to 4pm on weekdays and 9am to 4pm weekends. The variety and standard of food is outstanding and the staff are so friendly, nothing is too much trouble and they go out of their way to make your visit special.
Many ‘plane spotters’ like myself use the facility to meet and share experiences and have become well known faces in the café. It’s very family-friendly and the kids love watching the planes too! Dogs are welcome outside and the building also houses PTT Aviation which provides private pilot training. Parking costs £2 per hour and the first 20 minutes are free.
I thoroughly enjoyed my day out at Multiflight and I can assure you I will be a regular visitor whenever I get the opportunity; it’s around 20 mins from the M62 and easy to find right opposite the main building of Leeds Bradford Airport.”
Thanks for the lovely comments Lorraine and we hope to see you here regularly.
