HEMS Crew Course at Multiflight well received
A HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Services) Crew Course run at Multiflight to train new doctors and paramedics for the Great North Air Ambulance Service has been a great success.
The five-day course has been enjoyed and warmly received by the four attending students who now leave to start shifts as operational HEMS paramedics and doctors.
The course is designed to take experienced paramedics and doctors and give them the required skills and knowledge to become safe and efficient technical crew members and enhanced medical passengers respectively on HEMS helicopters operating in the UK. The week involved ground instruction covering the following topics:
- Safe working with helicopters
- Basic meteorology
- Aviation and HEMS regulation
- AS365 Dauphin technical familiarisation
- AS365 Dauphin safety brief
- Basic air navigation
- Practical navigation planning
They also undertook airborne training, including:
- Airborne procedures
- HEMS landing site selection
- Malfunction handling
In addition, the students have completed a Crew Resource Management Foundation Course.
- CRM training in progress
- Landaway at Leeds East Airport during training sorties
- Navigation planning in progress
- Airborne instruction.
Multiflight would like to extend thanks to our friends at Airbox Systems (airboxaero.com) for the kind loan of iPads loaded with their ACANS navigation software which helped enormously with the delivery of high-fidelity training.
