Multiflight is proud to be associated with Lycoming, which has a great history of dependability, reliability and outstanding performance.
It was in 1929 that the Lycoming factory created its first ever aircraft engine, which was a nine cylinder radial: the R-680. Over 25,000 of these R-680 engines were built and they powered everything from Stearmans to Stinsons: many of these aircraft are still flying today.
A decade later, in 1939, the first Sikorsky helicopter was powered by a Lycoming 65-horsepower, horizontally opposed four cylinder engine.
Near the end of World War II, the US Air Force commissioned Lycoming to create the largest piston engine ever made, which was a 36 cylinder radial creating 5,000 horsepower.
During the late 1960s Lycoming engines were being used by every major general aviation manufacturer of piston powered aircraft. In 1967, Lycoming made the world’s first, and only, FAA certified aerobatic engine.
Lycoming introduced its 580 cubic inch series engine in 1998. This engine was designed to produce greater horsepower at lower RPMs, and to significantly reduce the internal and external noise signatures.
Lycoming has built more than 270,000 piston aircraft engines over the years. Today the Lycoming factory creates the most comprehensive line of horizontally opposed, air cooled four, six and eight cylinder aircraft engines that is available, with the power ranging from 100 to 400 HP. Whether normally aspirated or turbocharged, carbureted or fuel injected, Lycoming engines have an unparalleled reputation for reaching or exceeding TBO.
Lycoming engines are well known for their reliability, performance and durability and power over 85% of the new general aviation aircraft produced worldwide. Over half the world’s general aviation fleet, both rotary and fixed wing, is powered by piston engines developed by Lycoming.
Lycoming is a Division of Textron Inc., which is one of the world’s largest and most respected multi-industry companies. Its combined global strength, financial stability and unequaled reputation gives peace of mind to its customers.
Lycoming delivers consistently reliable engines that are built with pride and flown with confidence, and which are supported by a worldwide network of distributors and technical expertise.
