multiflight; everything for the flying experience, everything you need to make it happen.

Instrument Rating

The instrument rating allows you to pilot your aircraft in some of the worst weather and some of the busiest airspace in the world; therefore as you would expect this is one of the most demanding ratings. Your training will encompass flights purely on instruments, departures, approaches and flights within the 'motorway' structure of the sky.

In order to gain your IR you will need to pass 9 theoretical examinations and undergo either 50 hours training (if you hold a CPL) or 55 hours training (if you don't hold a CPL), you will also need to hold a Class 1 Medical. If you have already undertaken your ATPL examinations you do not need to retake the theoretical examinations.

The theoretical examinations consist of:

• Air Law/Operational Procedures
• Aircraft General Knowledge
• Flight Performance & Planning
• Human Performance & Limitations
• Meteorology
• Navigation
• Communications (IFR)

On completion of your training you would then need to take and pass the flight test with a CAA examiner.

The IR is valid for 12 months and is renewed with a flight test with a registered examiner. If you renewed your licence in the simulator one year you will need to renew in the aircraft the next year and visa versa.
