“From the moment of my first flight at the controls of an aircraft, during a trial lesson, I knew that I wanted to become a professional pilot” – Multiflight CPL, IR, MCC student Sarah Callaghan

Exciting outings to the airport as a child left Multiflight Flight Training Centre student Sarah Callaghan mesmerised and led her to dream of a career in aviation.

“I was fortunate enough to begin flying lessons just after my 16th birthday and became one of the youngest females to qualify with a Private Pilot’s Licence,” says Sarah.

“The buzz of each flight, whilst soaring high above the countryside, defying gravity, is electrifying.

“Multiflight, based at Leeds Bradford Airport, was recommended to me by several acquaintances, all of whom are now airline pilots. Having successfully completed the training for my Commercial Pilot’s Licence and Instrument Rating here at the Multiflight Flight Training Centre, as well as undertaking the Multi Crew Co-operation Course, I believe the Company’s reputation is second to none.

“I have found Multiflight to be a very professional, welcoming and well run organisation with excellent facilities. Staff always have your best interests at heart and are aware of the time constraint and huge financial demands placed upon each individual. The advanced training is carried out by a team of committed instructors, using a fleet of practical, well maintained Beech Duchess aircraft and an FNPTII simulator.

“Undertaking the Commercial Pilot’s Licence at Multiflight enables the opportunity to experience flying in a hectic environment, where continual integration with both commercial and military traffic is necessary, sharpening a pilot’s skill.

“The Instrument Rating training begins in the simulator initially, before moving on to the aircraft. The clear and comprehensive teaching makes the course particularly enjoyable and quickly dispels rumours of it being the most difficult hurdle of a pilot’s career. Suddenly you can see everything coming together and this gives a great sense of achievement. The proudest moment of my life was obtaining a first time pass.

In November (2008) I enrolled on the Multi Crew Co-operation Course. This is taught by individuals with vast experience in their field and gives an insight as to the transformation required to become an airline pilot. Although there is no exam at the end, the more time and effort afforded during the course, the greater the reward. Carrying out the training in a King Air simulator really allows you to concentrate on and understand the main aim of the course; working in a multi crew environment.

“I am now keeping my fingers crossed in the hope of finding that dream job as an airline pilot.”
