After his first visit to watch aircraft with his parents at the age of four, Multiflight Flight Training Centre student Andrew Binns knew that he wanted to fly airliners.
“The determination to reach my goal is as strong now as it was then,” says Andrew.
“Thanks to Multiflight I am well on the way to achieving that dream.
“At the age of 17 I decided it was time to start the PPL (Private Pilot’s Licence) and after researching flying schools I found Multiflight to be by far the best school locally. On arriving to enquire about learning to fly I was greeted with enthusiastic instructors who were keen to show me the facilities.
“After my first lesson in the Robin I was completely hooked! I obtained the PPL at 18: before I could drive!
“It was an obvious choice to continue my professional training at Multiflight, having had such a good experience doing my PPL. I had also made good friends with the staff so I felt very happy doing the MEP (Multi Engine Piston Rating), IR (Instrument Rating) and CPL (Commercial Pilot’s Licence). On completion of my A levels and ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot Licence) ground examinations I began the MEP in August 2008.
“Having completed all but the CPL I can say that the standard of instruction has been first rate: my first instructor Dick Cummings on the MEP course, Kate Todd in the simulator for the IR, Brian Talbot and Andy Todd on the Duchess, have always been keen to fly and their knowledge and advice is extremely helpful. They always have time for you no matter whether you're preparing for a flight or just stuck on one aspect of the course. I have achieved first time passes in everything so far which is down to the dedication and quality of the instructors. The training has been extremely enjoyable although at times demanding!
“I am also grateful to Brian for advising me to complete the IR before the CPL as I already held the MEP and this has worked out a lot better financially and proved a faster way to achieving the ATPL. This just goes to show how conscientious and considerate the Multiflight Flight Training Centre team is.
“Due to the fact that Leeds Bradford is an international airport with good instrument facilities and Class D airspace, it gives you so much confidence when flying away from base on cross country flights. It is also ideal preparation for the airline flying as there are published standard instrument departures, busy airways nearby, and professional ATC (Air Traffic Control).
“The aircraft used on both the IR and CPL are the Beech Duchess, which is an ideal training aircraft: it has straightforward fuel and electrical systems, is very stable and pleasant to fly.
“During my training I have visited many other schools and even completed my ATPL's with another FTO (Flight Training Organisation). I can honestly say that nothing I have seen comes close to Multiflight: I have recommended Multiflight to friends who have been equally impressed.
“To sum up, I feel I could not have chosen a better school. It’s a big decision for someone to undertake a career in aviation financially and it is vital to know you can trust the school you are training with. I am very close to achieving a life-long ambition and have enjoyed every step along the way. After completing my CPL I will enrol on the MCC (Multi Crew Co-operation) course: the last step before applying to the airlines!”
