Ab-Initio Air Transport Pilot's Licence
The Ab-Initio Air Transport Pilot's Licence (ATPL) Course is available here at Multiflight Flight Training Centre at Leeds Bradford International Airport.
The Ab-Initio Air Transport Pilot's Licence Course is designed to take the potential professional pilot with no flying experience through the training required to gain their Commercial Pilot's Licence (CPL)/ Instrument Rating (IR) with Air Transport Pilot's Licence theoretical knowledge credits in approximately 15 months.
It effectively takes the student through the modular route to a commercial licence and includes all the flight and ground training for CPL/IR issue. This is carefully structured in order to make the process as quick and cost effective as possible. It is certainly much cheaper than the integrated route.
In order to expedite the course the first module, the Private Pilot's Licence (PPL) is taken in the USA with our training partner London Aviation based at Naples, Florida. This includes all ground school and 40 hours flying training and culminates in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) PPL issue with Night Rating. (The PPL and hours training can be undertaken at Multiflight and because of the price of flights, visa and accommodation the cost would be similar, but it would take much longer: six months to one year, as opposed to 10 weeks in the USA – due to the better weather.)
The student then embarks on a structured hour building that is also carried out in the USA as it is far cheaper and the weather is much better. A further 110 flying hours will be completed before returning to the UK including conversion to Joint Aviation Authority (JAA) PPL. During the hour building the student is supplied with the study material required for the distance learning portion of the Air Transport Pilot's Licence ground school module. This is provided by our other training partner: Bristol Ground School.
On returning to the UK the student then completes the distance learning portion of the ground school before attending two two-week full time Bristol Ground School brush-up courses prior to sitting the Air Transport Pilot's Licence theoretical knowledge examinations. Having passed these examinations the flying training can continue: the CPL and Multi Engine Piston (MEP) 28-hour module. This leads to the first test with a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Flight Examiner and CPL issue. Next comes the Multi-engine IR 55 hour module that is followed by another CAA flight test and IR issue. In order to go on and fly multi crew aircraft a Multi Crew Cooperation Course (MCC) will be required. This is an optional extra and is not included in the basic course price.
