Cool
An efficient cylinder must do more than merely produce, and contain, the power that your engine delivers. It must also dissipate the heat it generates quickly, evenly and efficiently.
A slick surface may well look pretty, but it just doesn’t transfer heat as efficiently as a rough one will. Disturbing the cooling air assists greatly in the heat transfer process. Air will turbulate over the rough surface of a Lycoming cylinder to dissipate the heat quickly and evenly.
Hard
Nitriding produces a harder cylinder than through-hardening. During the manufacturing process, the nitriding process creates a .025” thick armour of protection that outlives through-hardening by a wide margin.
Tough
Only Lycoming designs and delivers certified cylinders for the full line of Lycoming engines. This includes high compression cylinders.
Lycoming heads and cylinder barrels have extra strength engineered and built into their alloys at the very start.
Complete
Lycoming cylinder kits come with a nitrided steel barrel*, new aluminium alloy cylinder head, piston plugs and pins, intake and exhaust valves, chrome oil and compression rings, valve springs and seals, retaining keys, and all gaskets and seals.
